Fuel Savings
One way Midas Foods products benefit the environment is through fuel savings. Freight costs are reduced because hydrated products are not shipped, which takes up more space on a truck. A truckload of Midas dry sauces reconstitute to the equivalent of 4-5 truckloads of actual frozen/refrigerated items. This cuts the amount of product that needs to be shipped by 60-80%. Fewer trucks, fewer trips, less fuel and less refrigeration energy usage. This all, in turn, reduces the fuel needed and the carbon emissions produced during transportation.
Storage
Another way in which Midas Foods products are environmentally friendly is through their storage. The dry products can be stored at ambient temperature, which means they do not require additional electricity to run refrigeration or freezer space. This saves energy and reduces the carbon footprint of the product.
Waste
Midas Foods also produces less waste during the manufacturing process. Unlike most ready-to-use sauces that are only available in one pouch size, Midas Foods can scale powder to be made to specific batch sizes. This means there is no waste with leftover product in the bottom of the containers, reducing food waste.
Midas Foods products also have a longer shelf life, typically lasting 9-12 months—allowing the product to be stored for a long period of time in dry storage, reducing the amount of waste due to spoilage.
Packaging
Our dry blends are not packed in hard plastic containers but rather mylar pouches or poly lined kraft bags. These take up significantly less space in the landfill, reducing the amount of waste that ends up there.
