Midas Foods International is committed to a safe and equitable planet for all of its inhabitants.  We manufacture dry blend food mixes that deliver convenience and long storage life to provide affordable, low-cost ingredients that minimize shipping, and refrigeration throughout the supply chain.  Our products are used in both manufacturing and restaurant environments.

Midas Foods International believes in a clean, safe environment, both within the walls of our facilities and for the planet as a whole.  This is reflected in our operations, from the propagation of concentrated dry mix foods that require low energy usage in production (no cooking or refrigeration), shipping (dry v. refrigerated) and storage (dry v. refrigerated) to the land-use plan for our recent facility expansion which added green space and an environmentally friendly retention pond to our North American campus footprint.

  • Water Preservation
    • Dry blend eliminates the amount of water being shipped v. comparable amounts of finished product from prepared foods facilities
    • Dry mix usage presents comparatively less wastewater cleanup and biological oxygen debt (BOD) issues common in liquid plants.
  • Food waste – Discontinued items (safe for consumption but no longer in production) are regularly donated to local shelters and food kitchens
  • Energy & Climate – Conservation efforts
    • Dry mix stored at ambient temperatures requires no energy for refrigeration or freezing v. some temperature controlled prepared soups, sauces, dressings and other ready-to-use products.
    • Lighting energy– Midas Foods instituted LED lighting companywide.
    • Resource conservation
      • Distribution supply chain of dry mixes does not require refrigeration, decreasing the need for costly refrigeration at warehouses and shipping Many products require no heating to prepare (further reduction of energy usage)
      • 1 truckload of dry product can equal 2 to 10 truckloads of prepared, which cuts fossil fuel usage 2 to 10x in shipping[1]

Sustainability Efforts

At Midas Foods, we are aware of our impact on the environment, and we aim to make choices that reduce our environmental footprint. Not only do we produce high-quality, culinary-level dry mixes, but we also prioritize environmental responsibility.

Fuel Savings

One way Midas Foods products can reduce our environmental footprint is through fuel savings. Freight costs are reduced because hydrated products tend to take up more space on a truck and weigh more than Midas’ dry products. A truckload of Midas dry sauces reconstitutes to the equivalent of 2-10 truckloads of actual frozen/refrigerated items. This cuts the amount of product that needs to be shipped significantly.

Storage

Midas Foods also prioritizes environmental responsibility through their storage. Midas Foods’ products can be stored at ambient temperature, which means they do not require additional electricity to run refrigeration or freezer space.

Waste

Midas Foods products also have a longer shelf life that prepared, ready-to-eat sauces, glazes and gravies.  Our dry shelf life is typically 9-12 months—allowing the product to be stored for a long period of time in dry storage.

Packaging

Our dry blends are not packed in hard plastic containers but rather mylar pouches or poly lined kraft bags. These take up significantly less space in the landfill, reducing the amount of waste that ends up there.

From reducing fuel consumption during transportation to reducing waste during the manufacturing process, we endeavor to produce a product that reduces our environmental footprint. Contact us today to receive samples or learn how we can create a custom recipe just for you.
